We had asked a man at Olvera Street to take a picture of the 2 of us together and he kindly obliged...when we were at Union Station, he approached us and asked if we'd like him to once again take a picture of the two of us together...I said..."Look Sylvia! Our photographer is here!" He was very nice and told us that he grew up in Los Angeles (Beacon Hill area) and was going to catch a train to Ventura to visit a friend...I told him that I would be driving up that way tomorrow (Sat) if he wanted a ride :)
our union stations are so similar. we have retail stores in ours here, along with several excellent restaurants. both are so beautiful inside though with the polished floors and beautiful wood seats.
on olvera street, we saw the 1st house and 1st street ever built in los angeles. we ate at a place called phillipes (sp?) where coffee is only 9 cents. can you believe it? lemonade was 60 cents. i would have loved to bring those prices back to maryland.
Hi again Peg :) Phillipes has some great french dip sandwiches $4.95 and lots of side dishes to go with it...I believe the sides are $1.50 and homemade apple pie is only $1.60 for a large slice...Sylvia loves orange sherbert and a scoop was only 35 cents! I'm not sure why it's so reasonable but the food tastes great and it's always packed...for those of you who may be visiting LA, you can walk there from Union Station or Olvera Street...one short block.
Our photographer didn't take me up on my offer of a ride to Ventura...he had to get there on Friday and I wouldn't be going in that direction until Saturday afternoon...after I dropped Sylvia off at LAX...

How interesting!! Does Phillipes keep the prices as they were when they first were built as a nostalgic thing?
Willy, how nice of you to offer someone a ride. Shows your kind spirit!!
Once again, great pictures and I love seeing parts of California. Makes me want to plan my next vacation, and consider California!!
